To be fair, however sympathetic people find Donziger, there's nothing sinister or particularly objectionable here; his defense reminds me of people who insist income taxes are unconstitutional. 2nd, $9.5B judgements by foreign courts *shouldn't* be enforcable here. That's nuts.

He's just defending a legal prosecution. I understand that people might see a lot of heroic aspects in Mr. Donziger, but wouldn't this upend all the cases successfully prosecuted in this way up to now, however firm the basis for their conviction? The DOJ upheld the law.

I have heard varieties of conspiratorial accounting for the man. People can believe what they like, but in this instance the fact that he upheld the legal principles at issue, and that it was necessary for him to do so, seem hard to dispute.
