Hi anybody got experience with the medication Olanzapine? I used to be on 15mg a day but came off it at the end of October last year after a month withdrawal plan which I now think was to quick.
I was at my doctors today and we decided to go back on a low dose of Olanzapine 5mg for a couple of months then if things have improved start to taper it again but over a much longer period.
Would be interested to hear from others who have been or currently taking this medication.

- Leonard Clinton Williams IIIBen Lumsden I may have offended you. I didn’t mean to get too deep into your private matters, you seemed to be sharing a lot.If you still need help I will be happy to help you.I’ll try to be more general and vague to preserve your privacy.Did the paranoid thoughts go away with the olanzapine and then come back after you tapered off on your withdrawal plan? If they went away that may be a sign that you definitely need this or another similar medication. When you say “paranoid thoughts”, what do you mean? Do you mean an emotional distrust in general? For instance, you have to watch what you say and keep secrets. Or is it something where your mind goes to a place where everyone you meet is or could be “out to get you”?Paranoid can be many things. Also, what forms of treatment have you used for this now and in the past?

- Ben LumsdenAuthorHi yes the paranoid thought went away when I was on Olanzapine and came back once I had stopped. You didn’t offend me I just deleted my last comment because I didn’t want to trigger anyone else. Yes I feel everyone is out to get me.

Hide 12 Replies- Leonard Clinton Williams IIIBen Lumsden FYI there is a rule for triggering on this forum, you can look it up. You notate the post as a trigger warning and make some lines. Is this feeling a general feeling that everyone is out to get you, or is it more focused on a specific group of people?

- Leonard Clinton Williams IIIBen Lumsden it truthfully sounds like you should stick with olanzapine, unless the side effects are completely unbearable. These kind of medicines will have severe side effects and sometimes you pick the lesser evil. What were the side effects you had?

- Leonard Clinton Williams IIIBen Lumsden weight gain is common. You’ve got to watch out for diabetes. How much did you gain each year?

- Leonard Clinton Williams IIIBen Lumsden that is not bad. Have you looked at alternative medications? I’d say 10 lbs a year is a pretty light side effect. You may do better elsewhere if you tried. It’s always a gamble

- Ben LumsdenAuthorYes I have been on various medications over the years such as Haloperidol, Seroquel, Risperdal and Chlorpromazine but they all made me way to tired to function which Olanzapine does not. My plan is to stay on this new dose of Olanzapine and see how I am in a few months and then decided if to stay on it or wean off again.

- Leonard Clinton Williams IIIBen Lumsden yeah I think that sounds good. It’s always preferable to not take medication. The skill to have for dealing with paranoia after you’ve weaned off on a withdrawal plan is to be able to not let others make you suspicious. It’s possible to exert your willpower to rid yourself of intrusive paranoid thoughts, but what people are subject to is when other people suggest that people might be up to something or out to get you, it brings it all back. Kind of like you can tame your own suspicions but any influence from the outside to make you paranoid will tip you over the edge. I would be practicing for how to handle that situation.
