Anyone else have multiple diagnosis in your family of neurological & psychiatric disorders? We have Epilepsy, BPD, ADHD, ASD, OCD, Anxiety, MDD.... I’ve been trying to get help because I have a disorder myself & it’s A LOT to run our home in a healthy way. Some days I really struggle.

- Rebecca SmithI have Ocd and autism and my mom has a lot of anxiety and is quite possibly on the autistic spectrum herself. My brother is struggling with agoraphobia as well. It's extremely difficult. Because of our anxiety none of us drive. Since I'm unable to work I take care of all the household chores which I can at least manage most days. There are days where I'm incapacitated by my OCD and literally am unable to do anything other than stare bleakly at the wall. Its horrible. Getting help for me isn't really an option because it's too expensive and the help that I have gotten that was covered by insurance was extremely unhelpful and inadequate. After being hospitalized for it I've learned how to go about treating it though so I've been managing it myself.

- Jenn NicholsAuthorRebecca Smith we can definitely relate. We have 2 drivers in our house of seven. It just seems like there should be a program to help us in our homes like a social worker assigned that would come out & do counseling here or program to drive people to appointments. It’s hard.

- Rebecca SmithJenn Nichols I remember with my old insurance they actually had drivers that would take me to my appointments. I don't remember the specifics because I was 16 and this was a while back but I'm pretty sure it was through the insurance company. Does your insurance not provide anything like that?

- Jenn NicholsAuthorRebecca Smith unfortunately not. I have 2 have aged out of their insurance and one about too also. In fact, my 19 year old who is able to work works night shift & when I picked her up this morning she said they told her she couldn’t start her insurance until November. & said well, welcome to the American healthcare crisis honey.

- Rebecca SmithJenn Nichols Yeah that figures... Our healthcare system is seriously screwed up. The insurance my family has now isn't very good either. My mom has all these health problems going on but she can only go to this really screwy clinic that doesn't do anything. The insurance doesn't cover much. The only other thing I can think of are taxi services but that might be a lot of money if you have to travel a lot.

- Leonard Clinton Williams IIIJenn Nichols, props for keeping a family of 7 up and running. I’m 39 and still working on how to manage the affairs of my one person household. Not sure if I’m going to live through it at this point. How many in your household have some condition?I’ve been looking up the Comorbidity of ASD with borderline personality disorder. There was another member who asked me to IM her to discuss her problems. The medical people in her local area are a racket. I looked it up and usually if a spectrum disordered person is diagnosed with BPD it is a misdiagnosis.I am not disparaging your medical people, but I would say that if these disorders among your family members are confined to just one or two people, you may have a need for a second opinion.OCD, ADHD, and ASD, Anxiety all overlap.
